Alpine Hut is a family-owned, local ski and bike shop in the Interbay/Magnolia neighborhood in Seattle. For 40 years, Alpine Hut has been helping our customers get outside and explore the Pacific Northwest, whether that means biking or skiing. We are passionate about providing the highest quality service and products to our customers and are looking to grow our team. We are looking for a customer-service oriented retail sales associate who is passionate about bike and snow sports and has an interest in growth opportunities. Previous retail experience required.

 

Job Description:
 

The retail sales associate role is responsible for providing excellent customer service and executing sales as part of a team. The ideal candidate for this role has a can-do, take initiative personality that thrives in a fast-paced work environment while maintaining a positive attitude. This role also requires great communication and the ability to work effectively on a team and take direction and constructive feedback from management. The ability to prioritize work while maintaining attention to detail is also a major focus of this position. 

 

Sales Staff Duties:

  • Ensure that customers have a fun and memorable shopping experience by providing them with product knowledge, options, and accessories.
  • Proactively grow knowledge about store inventory, including independent research, attending clinics, studying catalogs and attending trainings.
  • Answer the store phone and respond to customer questions by using the website, asking coworkers or using other store resources to find answers.
  • Process cash and credit card sales using POS system, including recording customer contact information, providing receipts and informing customers about store return policies and process special order requests.
  • Monitor customer trends and requests and suggest new products to Buyer(s) and Store Manager.
  • Check in new inventory as it arrives, including checking off each item on the packing slip, printing tags, tagging items, uploading packing slip, breaking down and recycling and packaging and troubleshooting issues with missing inventory.
  • Organize new inventory in backstock areas and/or merchandise in store.
  • Assist with processing of online orders, including customer correspondence and packaging and mailing products.
  • Assist with store inventory and additional batch inventories as needed.

Physical Demands:

Service Shop Duties:

  • Under supervision of the manager, perform ski and snowboard services
  • Advise customers on options and pricing for service(s), including what can and cannot be repaired
  • Assist customers with check-in and check-out for services such as tunes, mounts, and repairs
  • Ensure that all necessary paperwork and liability release forms for shop work are completed as required
  • Clearly communicate shop turn-around times and pricing to customers
  • Keep the service shop clean and well organized
  • Clean and maintain ski tuning machines and tools
  • Answer the shop phone and answer customer questions or use the website, ask coworkers or use other store resources to find answers

 

Rental Shop Duties: 

  • Advise customers on appropriate rental equipment, listening to the clients’ skiing and snowboarding goals and considering the conditions
  • Fit and adjust rental and demo equipment to suit the needs of customers
  • Maintain accurate rental records, including ensuring that all of the appropriate Rental Forms and Liability Waivers are completed
  • Assist Customers with Rental and Appointment Software systems 
  • Under supervision of the Shop Manager, ensure that rentals and demos are safe, clean and well-maintained
  • Ensure that the rental shop is clean and well organized
