Job Description & Requirements

The Product Manager, Soft Goods owns their product lines* at the business segment in the areas of product specific strategy and product requirements. The Product Manager facilitates cross-functional relationships and decisions along the product lifecycle for all existing and new product initiatives. Must possess a proven analytical capability, strong, persuasive communication skills (written & verbal) and ability to develop ideas independently and thrive in a fast-paced environment. Holds a deep understanding of the market and channel needs as well as the competitive landscape. Can translate consumer needs into features, pricing models, and merchandising opportunities to deliver an unparalleled customer experience.

* This Product Manager will be responsible for Run Packs and Vests, Hiking Packs, and Everyday Packs.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Owns at the Business Segment in the following areas:
    • Consumer Insights - including market research, interviewing and interviewing techniques, focus groups, ethnographic research, usability studies, and other methods
    • Margin Management - product line pricing strategies to support company revenue and margin goals
    • Line Plan - development programs as well as Color & Merchandizing strategy by confirming alignment with the brand vision
    • SKU Analysis - detailed analysis to drive SKU efficiency conversation
    • Business Analysis (Market/Sales) - tracking key performance indicators including revenue, cost savings, margin, market share, Point of Sale (POS), customer feedback or other indicators
    • Road Mapping - development of a multiyear roadmap for assigned product line(s) both short-term and long-term goals
    • New Product Introduction (NPI) – gate reviews, milestones, and provides critical analysis to help the cross functional product team make successful decisions
  • Presentation – Leads product communication to a wide variety of audiences i.e. customers, senior management, internal groups, and internal departments and at industry events
  • Supports Brand Marketing in the development and execution of all aspect of the product marketing plans including:
    • Packaging
    • Product positioning
    • Retail Merchandising
    • Naming, branding and messaging
  • Makes recommendations to refine, streamline, and continuously improve the product development/management process
  • Above responsibilities are a general overview of the role, they are not intended to be all encompassing, other responsibilities may be added based on business needs that are unique to the specific position

Position Requirements:

  • 5+ years in a product management position in a related category with strong market knowledge and a demonstrated ability to conceptualize, track and deliver projects
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Exposed to the following business functions:
    • Demand creation
    • Data and market analytics
    • Supply chain planning
    • Financial modeling
    • Product development
  • Ability to communicate clearly and persuasively, negotiate successful outcomes
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and sales analytics software
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Team player and will contribute to the CamelBak culture
  • Comfortable with “white space”, be a creator

Working Conditions:

  • Standard Office Environment
  • Computer terminal use 6 hours per day.
  • Moving boxes of products for shipping. Ability to lift 25 pounds unassisted
  • Domestic and International travel to include weekends and for periods as long as two weeks at a time.
