 POSITION PURPOSE

The Product Manager II is responsible for all aspects of his/her business in a vertical fashion. The Product Manager II is considered the expert within the product category and will understand the entire marketplace as it relates to this specific category and all related categories. He/she will lead the process of building the strongest possible assortment of new, continuing and seasonal products while meeting all category margin goals. Identify slow selling and overstocked items by working with the sales team to create an action plan to reduce excess inventory profitably.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

=       Responsible for the assortment planning of the category in order to meet company goals including sales, margin and inventory turns.

=       Identify potential DWO and Obsolete items and successfully remove them from inventory by working with the sales team to sell them at the highest possible price and as quickly as possible.

=       Calculate and maintain accurate final costs of purchased and manufactured products so that competitive retails can be set that will allow us to meet our financial objectives while still being competitive in the marketplace.

=       Deliver accurate and timely item maintenance file updates including, new item set ups, revisions to cost, updates to item status and ordering guidelines.

=       Develops new products both domestically and through offshore manufacturing working with the Import Sourcing Manager at Laker.

=       Work responsibly through merchandise planning and forecasting to meet all company service level requirements for products in the category.

=       Communicate with the Replenishment Analyst at Laker as needed and complete a detailed business review each month that will look at all outstanding purchase orders, vendors, forecasts, etc.

=       Support the sales team in the on-time development of new products that will be included as major product launches, future catalog additions or in the development of customer specific or private brand items. All new product development will follow the Product Management timeline for development standards unless agreed upon by the VP Sales and Marketing.

=       Effectively communicate with all outside vendors so they clearly understand our business objectives and work closely with them to uncover any possible roadblocks that will keep us from hitting company objectives.

=       Search the market for new ideas, products, trends, raw materials, techniques and other opportunities that will improve our market penetration and increase our competitive advantage. The Product Manager is considered the expert in each department and their efforts should be expected to position our company as a leader in the industry.

=       Analysis of competition’s products, pricing and programs.

=       Provide monthly business development reviews for the VP Sales and Marketing as an update on current projects and to communicate potential opportunities.

=       Create and maintain close communication network with outside sales staff, Pro Staff and key customers as a source of ideas for potential new products and improvements to existing items.

=       Maintain the assigned portion of catalogs, price list and item master file.

=       Work closely with Marketing manager and copy write to develop accurate and informative press releases and support materials for publication. Support the marketing department in the creation and update of the company web site.

=       Assist Sales Team, Marketing Manager & VP Sales and Marketing in conducting National Sales meetings.

=       Develop and deliver informative presentations on assigned product lines.

=       Assist in developing Sales Team support material, pricing, and programs.

=       Assist Customer Service in customer problems/questions.

=       Complete all preparations, samples, promotional material in order to support our company's efforts at all industry trade shows, consumer shows, buying group shows, etc. This will include the schedule set up, staffing and take down of those shows.

=       Travel as required to industry trade shows, consumer trade shows, buying group shows in order to support the sales team in their efforts to improve our market penetration. The Product Manager’s knowledge and authority at these events is important to our success.

 

OTHER DUTIES

=       May be required to support other Product Managers in their absence because of business travel, vacations, etc.

=       May be required to perform essential functions in the support of the customer service group.

=       May be required to assist the shipping department during critical business peaks.

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

=        5 years Category Management/buying experience in a manufacturing or retail environment. Preferably outdoor, hard goods related.

=        College Degree required, preferably in marketing or business management.

=        Prefer background in design, marketing and product development.

=        Prefer 2 years international buying/travel experience

=        Prefer knowledgeable angler.

=        Strong communication skills.

=        Strong presentation skills.

=        Strong Leadership skills with ability to organize and run meetings with peers.

=        Computer skills - Advanced Word and Excel skills. Basic knowledgeable in graphic arts, Photo Shop and Power Point. 

=        Must be a detail driven person and have a passion for excellence in the execution of projects delivered without errors.

=        Have the ability to correct issues and communicate changes effectively. 

=        Good time management skills.

=        Must be able to work independently and be a self-starter.

=        Knowledge of fishing/tackle industry a plus.

=        Foreign language skills a plus.

=        Be available to assist at regional trade shows and national sales meetings.

=        Must be able to work and remain focused on detail in an open office environment where other department phones, conversations are part of the work area.

=        Must be able to work at a PC and perform computer functions approximately 40% of the time

=        Must have good visual acuity to inspect product samples and production for high quality level.

=        Must have good color vision for developing product and packaging.

=        Must be able to travel long distances on an airplane and be prepared for work on arrival.

=        Majority of work is in general office conditions with some limited work in warehouse environment with temperatures varying from very hot to very cold.

=        Trade show participation entails long hours of being on your feet; assisting in merchandising products, consist bending stooping, lifting etc.

=        Must be able to lift at least 40 lbs.
